The coxofemoral joint (a.k.a. hip joint) is the joint between the acetabulum of the pelvis (illium, ischium and pubis) and the femoral head.

The coxofemoral joint (a.k.a. hip joint) is the joint between the acetabulum of the pelvis (illium, ischium and pubis) and the femoral head.
These two anatomical components are kept in place by ligaments. The most important of these is the iliofemoral ligament, which directly connects the acetabulum of the pelvis to the head of the femur.
The iliofemoral ligament’s laxity can give an early indication of hip dysplasia.
Canine hip dysplasia refers to any form of degeneration of the coxofemoral joint, which results in loss of congruency of the limbs.
The causes of this degenerative pathology are not yet fully known. They might have something to do with genetic factors, dietary deficiencies, making wrong movements during the dog’s first months.
